Pittsburgh Pirates draft alumnus

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected catcher Arden Pabst ’13 ┬áin the 12th round of the Major League Baseball Draft June 10 after his three years of playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Pabst threw out an average of 47.8 percent of runners who attempted to steal a base, according to TheDPost.com. He had a .234 batting average, hit six home runs in 372 career at-bats and made five errors in 124 games. Pabst was also the team’s co-captain for the 2016 season.

He credited his success to two of his Georgia Tech coaches, Bryan Prince and Mike Nickeas, who were both pro catchers, Pabst said to DPost.
