The baseball team defeated Chatsworth 3-1 on Tuesday, securing its victory in the Easton Tournament.  It is the Wolverines’ fourth tournament victory in the last five years.

Several underclassman players contributed to the victory, beginning when Drew Bowser ’20 opened the scoring with an RBI triple. Bowser then scored on an RBI single by Pete Armstrong ’20, capping the Wolverines’ three-run first inning.  Mikey Golob ’19 recorded the last six outs of the game, earning the save.

The game served as a final pre-regular season tune-up for ace right-hander Jesse Bergin ’18 and fellow right-hander Ben Geiger ’17, the presumptive first and second starters for the team in league play.  Additionally, closer Nico Manucci ’17 warmed up but did not enter the game.

“[Bergin] is a down to the bone competitor,” program head Jared Halpert said.  “He hasn’t been on the mound in a competitive game for probably two months, and for him to come out and compete as well as he did, that’s just who he is.”

Coming off of five consecutive victories in the tournament, the squad will begin the league season March 14 on the road against Alemany for the first installment of a three-game series.

“It’s always good to win,” Halpert said. “It’s good motivation for the rest of the way, but it’s still just the first five games and we have a bunch of games to go ahead.”

The first pitch of the Alemany game is scheduled for March 14 at 3:30 p.m.
