    Administration, trustees rename Reynolds Hall

The administration and Board of Trustees voted to change the name of Reynolds Hall to Wang Hall in honor of Walter and Shirley Wang(Walter ’13, Chantalle ’17, Matthew ’18), who donated $5 million toward renovating the building.

Shirley Wang serves on the Board of Trustees.

“It is quite common for schools to use naming opportunities to honor those individuals, foundations and families who have made a significant impact on the school and its community,” Business Manager David Weil ’93 said. “It is also common practice that building names change over time, usually connected to when the building is significantly renovated or rebuilt.”

Reynolds Hall was one of the few buildings not renovated in the Middle School’s modernization project, Weil said, and the Board of Trustees felt that the building needs more modern facilities.

Wang Hall renovations are scheduled for completion by September 2015. The building will feature an improved wireless connection and larger classrooms.

Former Westlake School Headmaster Nathan Reynolds, for whom Reynolds Hall was named, supports the renovations, Weil said.

“I know that the school’s tremendous respect and appreciation for Mr. Reynolds will be memorialized at the Munger Library tower,” Weil said. “Exact plans are still being developed, but I’m sure announcements will be made as we get closer to the formal dedication.”
