Both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams won their first meet today, with the boys finishing 97-81 and the girls finishing 126-54.

This year, the swimming teams have lost many of their athletes from last season to water polo. Swimmer Adam Copses ’20 said that he was pleased with the team’s performance.

“I think we swam pretty well considering that we don’t have as many water polo players as we did last year, so we are not as deep so to speak,” Copses said. “I don’t think it affected us that much today.”

For the girls, Eve Hookstratten ’20 finished with 12 points. Hookstratten finished in first place in all four of the events that she raced in, winning the 200-yard free varsity, 100-yard free, 200-yard free relay and 400-yard free relay.

For the boys, swimmer Jameson McMullen ’19 scored the team’s most points with a total of 10 and Copses scored nine. McMullen came in second place in the 200-yard free and the 400-yard free relay but finished first in the 100-yard free. Copses finished third in the 200-yard free varsity, second in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard free relay but first in the 500-yard free.

Swimmer George Caras ’20 said that he believes the team can do well this season.

“Honestly, I’ve just been part of water polo this offseason so I haven’t had any practices with the swim team but so far we looked pretty good and I think that winning our first meet will give us some momentum going into the season,” Caras said.
