Wrestling puts forth a winning effort against Crespi

The wrestling team defeated Crespi by a score of 60-18, and this was the squad’s first league match of the season. This match is also memorable as it marks the first official win for head coach and program head Junior Amazan in his inaugural season. The Wolverine’s winning effort started with Chronicle Assistant Sports and Captain Lucas Lee ’21 and 106 pounder Hunter Griswold ’22 both winning by forfeits. The team also gave up 132, 182, and 220 weight classes by forfeit. Both teams pushed 113 weight class. 182 pounder Kanoa Young ’21 bumped up to the 195 weight class and won by pin against a wrestler who won the CIF Southern Section Championship last year. Even 145 pounder Rafa Lambert ’22, who joined the team last week, defeated his opponent by pin.

Captain Daniel Guerrero ’20 said the match helped the team find its footing.

“Crespi being our season opener meant we had to really show out and start our season the way it we want it to,” Gurrero ’20 said. “Our new wrestlers got to debut what they have been working throughout the fall and winter while our seasoned wrestlers showed what the team is about.”

The team plays next on the road versus Newbury Park in a tournament Friday.
