The football team dominated its season opener with a 39-0 victory against Heritage Christian High School Aug. 20.

Wide reciever Jason “JT” Thompson ’22 reflected on the team’s first game and said he hopes the win will motivate the squad.

“It felt amazing to get back on the field and start playing again,” Thompson said. “Our team spent months working and training prior to the season opener, and I am glad our efforts paid off. I think our victory will act as a spark plug for the team as we continue our work throughout the season.”

Aaron Milburn ’24 shared a similar sentiment, noting that he was proud of the squad’s performance. Milburn said he hopes the experience will act as a launching pad for future games, particularly the Del Rey League Championship and the CIF-SS playoffs.

“I am beyond glad we got to start our season on such a good note,” Milburn said. “Our performance showed how hard we had worked during our practice sessions leading up to the game. We look forward to building upon this as the season progresses. Our final goal is to win our league championship for the second year in a row in addition to a CIF playoff game.”

The football team is off to a strong start with a 1-0 record this season. The Wolverines look forward to continuing their winning streak at their next game against Venice High School on Aug. 27.
