Field hockey beats rival Edison

The field hockey team beat Edison 2-0 today in its first away game of the season.

In previous interviews, team captains Erin Lee ’18, Mia Reilly ’18 and Head Coach Erin Creznic all had highlighted Edison as a strong team. While the squad beat Edison last year, Reilly considered it an upset.

“Their team was definitely stronger and more aggressive this year than last year but so were we,” Reilly said.

The two goals were scored by Cypress Toomey ’19 and Taylor Redmond ’18 off of assists from Alyse Tran ’18 and Reilly respectively. The team scored both goals in the second half.

Lee highlighted younger players as significant forces on the field.

“Rachel Brown [‘20] was such a beast,” Lee said. “She’s a mid. When there were times the other team was in our half, she was always back for our defensive line. So many flawless tackles and ball-steals. She literally stole the ball off an Edison girl’s stick when she had full possession of it.”

Lee also mentioned Natalie Barnouw ’21 as a key player.

“[She] was such a baller,” Lee said. “When there were times the ball was in our circle she stepped to the ball against Edison’s [players] with so much poise. She saved [us] so many times.”

The squad will play Westminster on Tuesday.
