Girls’ basketball wins fourth straight game in a row

The girls’ basketball team defeated La Canada High School 75-31 Dec. 4 in their second game of the Brentwood tournament at Taper Family Gymnasium.

In the first game of the tournament, the Wolverines defeated Leuzinger High School on the road 65-39 Dec. 2. So far in the season, the team has been led by forward Kiki Iriafen ’21, who averaged 24 points and 19 rebounds heading into this matchup. 

Iriafen described the squad’s focus heading into this matchup against the Spartans. 

“Our emphasis for this game was getting better on defense and communicating more,” Iriafen said. 

The Game

The squad began the game quickly, scoring the first 13 points of the game and found themselves up 27-13 at the end of the first quarter. The girls continued this momentum, outscoring the Spartans by 11 points in the second quarter.

The team maintained this dominance in the second half, outscoring the Spartans 30-11 and winning the game 75-31.

Iriafen finished with 18 points for the Wolverines. This game marks the fourth win in a row for the squad and brings the girls to an overall record of 4-4. Iriafen described the keys in the win for the Wolverines. 

“We came out really focused and ready to play,” Iriafen said. “We started of strong and continued throughout the game.” 

Upcoming Games

The girls’ basketball team play their next match Dec. 5 against an unknown opponent in the Brentwood tournament. They will then play Crescenta Valley High School on the road Dec. 6.
