The boys basketball team beat Crean Lutheran High School 78-44 on Saturday in the Rolling Hills State Preview Game at Colony High School, advancing the squad’s overall record to 12-2.

The squad started off slow in the first quarter, only scoring 20 points to the Saints 15. The Wolverines then started to gain some momentum in the second and third quarters, outsourcing the opposing team by more than 10 points each quarter.

Point guard Cameron Thrower said he was proud of the way his team played.

“The game went well,” Thrower said. “I felt like we shared the ball really well and we hit open shots that extended our lead and gave us the win.”

Due to the squad’s strong lead, Thrower said that the younger players were given the opportunity to make it onto the court.

“It was great to see everyone play in that game and we need to carry that same mentality of being selfless and aggressive into the next game,” Thrower said.

According to the CIF-SS Boys Basketball Top 16 Poll, the Wolverines are currently ranked No. 7 in the southern section of the state. Thrower also said that he is looking forward to possibly making a deep run in the playoffs.

“As far as the season, I look forward to playoffs and making a great run with the team and before that, I look forward to capturing another league title,” Thrower said.

The squad looks to continue its season at home against Chaminade High School on May 12.
