HWPA stands at the senior appreciation booth on the Quad on Oct. 30. The parents organized a Halloween themed appreciation day with snacks and gifts.

The Harvard-Westlake Parents Association (HWPA) held the second Senior Appreciation Day of the 2023-2024 school year Oct. 30. The HWPA prepared and offered Caramel apples and other Halloween gifts to seniors at a booth during lunch on the Quad.

HWPA member Jodie Kennedy (Colin ’24) said the treat was planned out of care and respect for the seniors.

“We love our seniors,” Kennedy said. and we just wanted to tell them how much they’re loved, and share a special day with them,”

Kennedy said the seniors have cherished the treat, as it is an especially busy time for them.

“During this week when some college applications are due and getting done, this is a great diversion for them,” Kennedy said. “The kids are so wonderful and fantastic, and they are really enjoying this.”

HWPA member Nicole Hill ’94 (Madison ’24, Morgan ’26) said the seniors appreciated the breather that the snack booth gave them during the day.

“We think the snack boothis a nice break for them during school days,” Hill said. “[The seniors] are able to come get a fun toy and have a little treat with things like the caramel-covered apples. They work very hard as students of Harvard-Westlake, and its nice for them to know that their parents are proud of them and appreciate all of their hard work.”

Hill said this event will not be the last Senior Appreciation Day, as they have a few more planned throughout the year.

“We have several [events] that are on the school calendar, such as Christmas and ones next year,” Hill said.
