Chamber Singers, Bel Canto and Wolverine Chorus will perform their fall concert in Rugby Auditorium on Dec. 11. The concert consists of a selection of pieces chosen by Performing Arts Teacher Zanaida Robles as well as a special holiday program of “Christmas Gift” and “Silent Night”. The concert will also feature the song “The Summit is Nigh,” composed by Robles.
Kaylee Kim ’27 said she is looking forward to showcasing all the hard work that has gone into creating the concert.
“I’m really looking forward to our concert because it’s a chance for all the different choirs to share what we’ve been working on over the past couple of months,” Kim said. “There are always some wonderful pieces performed, and our choir director, Robles, consistently does an amazing job preparing everyone. I feel honored to be performing with the Chamber Singers this fall, especially since we’ll be singing a piece composed by our very own Robles.”
Robles said the inspiration behind her piece is the need to continue onward even when times are tough.
“It’s a very exuberant piece, full of hope, perseverance and not giving up,” Robles said. “The song embodies the theme we’re trying to convey in this concert, which is resilience.”
Cole Firshein ’26 said she loves performing in choir because she is surrounded by people who are just as passionate about music as she is.
“I’ve been looking forward to being a member of Jazz Singers since tenth grade, and I’m looking forward to all the fun songs we have for this show,” Firshein said. “I joined the choir in seventh grade because I love singing, and I wanted to be surrounded by people who love music and singing as much as I do.”
Robles said she is especially looking forward to a surprise element at the concert that will involve audience voices.
“I’m especially excited for the audience participation component that will be a surprise when we get there on concert night,” Robles said. “I love hearing audiences sing. I’m a choir nerd through and through, and my goal is to get as many people to sing it as possible. It’s not about judgment or who’s the best. It’s really about everyone being endowed with the ability and the right to lift up their voice.”
Kim said choir has been very impactful because of the strong community it provides.
“Every voice matters, and you learn what it truly means to become a well-rounded musician,” Kim said. “It also builds a real sense of community. My favorite part of choir is going on trips and performing in concerts, they’re truly memorable bonding experiences.”
