Prefects hosted a student-run Clash Royale Tournament from Dec. 8 to Dec. 19. The tournament consisted of 64 players who competed in a bracket system. The first-place winner received $75 and a month of Pass Royale or evolution of their choice. The second place winner received $35 and the third place winner received $25.
Prefect Miro Katan ’28 said that he was inspired by current trends to help organize this event.
“We were brainstorming unique tournament ideas that the student body would be genuinely excited about,” Katan said. “Clash Royale stood out to us as a game with a lot of recent hype, efficiency, and as something that hasn’t been done at Harvard-Westlake before.”
Prefect Charlotte Im ’27 said she loved the size of the tournament and seeing friends being brought together.
“This tournament by far had the most sign-ups out of all the tournaments I’ve planned before. Most of all, I loved how this tournament gathered crowds,” Im said. “It was really nice to see friends supporting friends. It brought a lot of energy to the Quad.”
The first-place winner of the tournament, Bodhi Lifrak ’27, said he entered the tournament for fun and believed the tournament brought the community closer.
“I decided to enter this tournament mostly because I thought it would be fun to compete, but I was also motivated by the prize offered,” Lifrak said. “This tournament benefited the HW community by bringing it together and promoting healthy competition by letting players of all skill levels participate was a good idea. The school should organize more events like this in the future.”
Participant Kaison Maruyama ’27 said he enjoyed the experience of the tournament and looks forward to upcoming events.
“I’m very glad I joined the tournament,” Maruyama said. “Playing my first game in the tournament was definitely an enjoyable experience, especially since the school hasn’t done something like this before. Even though I was out pretty early in the tournament, I still had fun participating, and I’m excited for any upcoming tournaments.”
Prefect Robby Louie ’26 said the tournament had a significant impact on the community, inspiring Prefect Council to plan a similar event in the future.
“This tournament had a very positive impact on the community,” Louie said. “Many students seemed to really enjoy it, and we will be announcing our next tournament soon.”
