FAC cancels X periods on 5 days

Free periods are canceled today in order for teachers to get acquainted with their students, a letter sent to the faculty this summer stated.

The proposition was passed by the Faculty Academic Committee in the spring of last year and will be incorporated in this upcoming school year.

Free periods will also be canceled on the weeks of Nov. 29 and May 29 (weeks with only two days of school) in order to maximize class time during the shortened weeks.

The committee unanimously passed this measure after the department heads had consulted with the other members of their respective departments.

The idea of canceling free periods has been heavily supported over the past three years by faculty, but was formally brought in front of the Committee by Head of Upper School, Harry Salamandra.
