Winter jazz concert features new age jazz and standards

Lasting upwards of three hours, the upper school winter jazz concert featured new-age jazz-rooted hip-hop, like Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit,” and jazz standards such as Duke Ellington’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

The concert consisted of both the three big bands, Jazz Ensemble, Studio Jazz Band and Jazz Band, and the two top combos, the Advanced Jazz Combo, nicknamed the “Isambo” after its former leader, and the Jazz Explorers. Though by the end the crowd’s numbers had fizzled down, the concert was overall well-attended.
