    By Vivien Mao

Berni Barta ’10, co-creator of Kid Flicks, has been awarded the honor of being one of the 10 Women of Worth by L’Oreal Paris. Kid Flicks, a non-profit organization which donates DVDs to children’s hospitals and pediatric departments, was started in 2002 by the four Barta sisters, Alexis ’03, Romi ’06, Marni ’09 and Berni.

According to the Women of Worth, L’Oreal Paris website,
women of worth are “tireless advocate for service and change in their local communities”. So far, Kid Flicks has donated 55,300 movies to 553 different hospitals across the United States, in all 50 states and even five hospitals in South Africa. Each time the sisters collect 100 DVDs, they personally deliver them to a local hospital.

Barta, along with being acknowledged as one of the Women of Worth, has been awarded $5,000 to help “achieve our goal of providing every Children’s Hospitals and Pediatric Departments with a ‘movie library’ of 100 assorted DVDs”. Kid Flicks also has the chance of winning an extra $25,000 dollars through a public vote taking place from Nov. 8 to Nov. 24. If she wins, she will be named a National Women of Worth.
