The boys basketball team defeated top-seeded Centennial High School 80-61 in the CIF State SoCal Regional Open Division Finals on March 7. For the first time in program history, the team will play for an Open Division State Championship this Saturday at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center.

Led by seniors Jared Mccain and Devin Williams, Centennial was 50-0 against California schools since May 2021 and came into its game against the Wolverines ranked fourth in the country by MaxPreps.com. Centennial won the 2023 CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) open division title and the 2022 open division state championship.

After a back-and-forth 23-20 first quarter in which guard Trent Perry ’24 scored eight points, both he and center Jacob Huggins ’23 were charged with two fouls early in the second. From then on, forwards Nikolas Khamenia ’25 and Brady Dunlap ’23 ran the offense, with the Wolverines leading by 10 at halftime and 18 by the end of the third quarter. Khamenia finished with 20, Dunlap 18 and Perry 25. Head Coach David Rebibo picked up his 301st career win.

To play Centennial, the Wolverines defeated two-seeded St. John Bosco, whom they lost to 62-55 in the CIF-SS semifinals.
