The school’s emergency alert system informed the community at 6:49 PM on Monday that in-person instruction would be canceled the next school day.

The school announced Sept. 4 in-person classes at the Upper School would be cancelled on Tuesday due to a major water leak on campus. The status of in-person classes on Wednesday is yet to be determined.

The most recent cancellation of in-person classes during the school year occurred Jan. 10, when both campuses were closed due to rain storms.

Head of Upper School Beth Slattery said in an all-school email that all water would be shut off on campus, requiring the campus to be closed.

“There is a water main leak at the upper school that will necessitate shutting water off for tomorrow and possibly Wednesday,” Slattery said. “This means that the upper school campus is closed for [in-person] classes on Tuesday, September 5.”

Slattery also said in the email teachers would be in contact with students immediately, and that students would have to check their emails for communication.

“Teachers have been asked to communicate with their students this evening to let them know if they will be meeting over Zoom or working asynchronously,” Slattery said. “Students must read their emails carefully tonight to know what is expected in each class for tomorrow. Attendance will be taken for classes meeting over Zoom.”
