Boys and girls cross country participated in the 44th Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, placing 54th (1:16:49.0) and 71st (1:32:53.2) respectively, on September 19-20.
Team captain Charles Abemayor ’26 placed 59th in the Boys Sweepstakes and led the boys with a 14:41.3 three-mile time. Abemayor said the whole team underperformed despite having high expectations coming into the Woodbridge Classic.
“[It was] definitely not our best day,” Abemayor said. “Coming off the PR City Invitational where we all ran [really well], we had [big] goals for Woodbridge. It was an off day for everyone and no one performed how they wanted to.”
Other notable performances include Alex Yang ’28 and Ollie Rauch ’28, who placed 63rd and 99th in the D1 Senior Boys division.
Abemayor said the team has a positive outlook and is looking to finish the season strong.
“We are still motivated for the postseason because we know how good we truly are,” Abemayor said. “There are many meets of high importance to come.”
Three girls placed top 100 in the varsity girls 3-Mile Rated competition. Jia Rhee ’28 and Mikaela Brabbee ’28 finished 17th and 86th, and Elle Kirman ’27 finished 37th.
Kirman said she was grateful for her experience at Woodbridge.
“The environment was very unique and special,” Kirman said. “I’m super lucky to have been able to participate in it. It was an exciting indication of our future.”
The team has five more competitions before the CIF finals on November 22.
